What is the role of the UL Eco-Council?

The activities of the Eco-Council are focused on the involvement of the University of Latvia in the international Eco-Schools programme and on the assessment and certification of the university's sustainability in similar systems, on the education of the UL community on sustainability issues, as well as on the implementation of activities to promote them and to cooperate with students.

The Eco-Council is working to implement the Sustainable Development Strategy through practical initiatives. One of the practical steps is to obtain the globally recognised Eco-School status or "Green Flag" for the University, by introducing practical, green lifestyle solutions in everyday life, such as the thoughtful consumption of resources like electricity, paper, food, changing travel habits, in order to achieve climate neutrality goals also at the University of Latvia.

The Eco-Council is also responsible for promoting cooperation with environmental organisations and institutions.
